Welcome to my blog. My name is Joe Cheng and I’m a developer at a Boston-area software startup. I was previously a developer on Windows Live Writer, the free (and super great!) blog editor from Microsoft.
I am not Joe Cheng, the famous Taiwanese actor and model. I am Joe Cheng, the obscure Chinese-American programmer and nerd.
Before joining Microsoft I worked for a variety of Boston-area startups, including Onfolio, Upromise, Visible Markets, and Allaire Corp. (I also worked at a bunch of others, but those are the ones I spent at least a year of my life on.)
From 1996 to 2001 I maintained a website for Photoshop enthusiasts called the Action XChange. (The only reason I mention this is because I still get the occasional e-mail saying, “I stumbled on your blog, are you that Joe Cheng…?”)
I have had an almost unhealthy obsession with computers since I was five years old, and an entirely unhealthy obsession with programming since college. Luckily there seem to be a lot of people out there who are kind or foolish enough to pay me to do what I love.
I have spent multiple years of my life working full-time with: C# (client-side only), Java, ColdFusion, HTML/JS/etc. I have used the following for at least a few decent-sized projects: Ruby (with and without Rails), C++. I have dabbled in, for fun: Lisp, Python, now Haskell.
I’m on LinkedIn. Feel free to add me if we’ve worked, studied, played, or prayed together in the past.
If you’re having problems with Windows Live Writer and are looking for help, a much better way to reach me is via the support forum.
